In the years before the Mexican Revolution, Ricardo Flores Magón and the Partido Liberal Mexicano organized workers throughout the Borderlands and were especially active among local copper miners. In 1905, smelter and railroad workers founded a Liberal Club in Douglas, Arizona, sister city to Agua Prieta, Sonora. In 1906, the Party staged a series of armed forays into Mexico, members in Douglas were arrested before they could join, and the documents seized in that raid were used in the 1909 Tombstone trial against Flores Magón and his companions. The Douglas Club was back in the news a year later. This is a brief account of those events which highlights a moment in the broader circulation of Mexican revolutionary anarchists throughout the two countries.
